Herpes symptoms हर व्यक्ति में एक जैसे नहीं होते। कुछ लोगों में classic blisters/sores होते हैं, कुछ में mild irritation जैसी symptoms होती हैं, और कई लोगों में कोई noticeable symptom नहीं होता। इसलिए appearance alone से diagnosis reliable नहीं है।
First recognized episode कभी-कभी ज्यादा symptomatic हो सकती है; recurrent outbreaks अक्सर shorter/milder होते हैं। Tingling, burning या localized discomfort lesion आने से पहले prodrome के रूप में महसूस हो सकता है।

- First episode में fever, body aches या swollen lymph nodes कुछ लोगों में
- Oral HSV में cold sores around lips/mouth

First Episode और Recurrence में फर्क
पहली recognized episode ज्यादा extensive हो सकती है, लेकिन यह हर व्यक्ति में नहीं होता। Recurrences अक्सर कम severe होते हैं। HSV-2 genital infection में recurrence HSV-1 genital infection की तुलना में generally more frequent हो सकती है।
Prodrome क्या है?
कुछ लोगों को outbreak से पहले tingling, burning या sensitivity महसूस होती है। यदि clinician ने episodic antiviral plan दिया हो, तो early recognition treatment timing में useful हो सकती है।
क्या हर Rash Herpes है?
नहीं। Fungal infections, irritation, folliculitis, aphthous lesions, allergic reactions और अन्य conditions mimic कर सकती हैं। Self-diagnosis से गलत treatment हो सकता है। Fresh lesion हो तो clinician PCR/NAAT swab consider कर सकता है।

- Severe pain, extensive lesions या fever हो

- Pregnancy में new genital symptoms हों
