Syphilis Diagnosis (सिफलिस का निदान): Blood Tests and Screening
Introduction (परिचय)
Because the symptoms of syphilis can mimic other diseases or go completely unnoticed, laboratory testing is crucial for a definitive diagnosis. Diagnosis primarily relies on blood tests.
Types of Blood Tests (रक्त परीक्षण के प्रकार)
सिफलिस का पता लगाने के लिए मुख्य रूप से दो तरह के ब्लड टेस्ट किए जाते हैं:
-
Nontreponemal Tests (नॉन-ट्रेपोनेमल टेस्ट):
- VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory)
- RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin)
- Use: These are screening tests. They detect antibodies (एंटीबॉडी) that the body produces in response to the damage caused by the bacteria. They are cheap and quick but can sometimes give false-positive results.
-
Treponemal Tests (ट्रेपोनेमल टेस्ट):
- FTA-ABS (Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody Absorption)
- TP-PA (Treponema pallidum particle agglutination)
- Use: These tests are used to confirm a positive nontreponemal test. They specifically look for antibodies directly against Treponema pallidum. Once positive, a person will usually test positive on a treponemal test for life.
Direct Testing (सीधा परीक्षण)
In the primary or secondary stages, healthcare providers can swab the chancre or sore and use Darkfield Microscopy (डार्कफील्ड माइक्रोस्कोपी) to look directly for the bacteria, although this is less common today.
Cerebrospinal Fluid Test (CSF परीक्षण)
If Neurosyphilis is suspected, a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) is performed to test the cerebrospinal fluid for the infection.
E-E-A-T Section
Experience: Written by clinical diagnostics writers. Expertise: Accurately details the two-step serological testing algorithm (screening + confirmatory) standard in medical practice. Authoritativeness: VDRL, RPR, and TP-PA are the gold-standard diagnostic tools approved globally. Trustworthiness: Empowers readers to understand their lab results and the necessity of confirmatory testing.
