Syphilis (सिफलिस) Overview: Causes and Basic Information

Introduction (परिचय)

Syphilis (सिफलिस) is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It is a highly contagious disease that primarily spreads through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. If left untreated, syphilis can cause severe and irreversible damage to the body.

Causes (कारण)

सिफलिस का मुख्य कारण Treponema pallidum नामक बैक्टीरिया है।

  • Direct Contact (सीधा संपर्क): It is contracted by direct contact with a syphilis sore (chancre) during sexual intercourse.
  • Mother to Child (मां से बच्चे में): Pregnant women with syphilis can pass the infection to their unborn child (Congenital Syphilis).

How It Spreads (यह कैसे फैलता है)

Syphilis can be transmitted through:

  • Unprotected vaginal sex (असुरक्षित योनि सेक्स)
  • Anal sex (गुदा मैथुन)
  • Oral sex (ओरल सेक्स)

It is NOT spread by using the same toilet, bathtub, clothing, or eating utensils.

Stages of Syphilis (सिफलिस के चरण)

Syphilis develops in stages, each with different signs and symptoms:

  1. Primary Stage (प्राथमिक चरण): Appearance of single or multiple sores (chancres).
  2. Secondary Stage (द्वितीयक चरण): Skin rash and mucous membrane lesions.
  3. Latent Stage (लेटेंट चरण): No visible symptoms, but bacteria remain in the body.
  4. Tertiary Stage (तृतीयक चरण): Severe damage to internal organs, including the brain and heart.
