Introduction (परिचय)

Indigestion (Dyspepsia) का प्रबंधन करने के लिए अक्सर दवाओं से ज़्यादा जीवनशैली (lifestyle) और खान-पान (diet) में बदलाव की आवश्यकता होती है। Functional dyspepsia (जहाँ कोई structural abnormality नहीं होती) में ये बदलाव primary line of defense होते हैं।

Dietary Modifications (आहार में बदलाव)

Dyspepsia के लक्षणों को ट्रिगर करने वाले खाद्य पदार्थों को पहचानना और उनसे बचना (Elimination diet) बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है:

  • Avoid High-Fat Foods: Fatty और fried foods पाचन तंत्र को धीमा कर देते हैं (delayed gastric emptying), जिससे भारीपन और bloating होती है।
  • Limit Spicy and Acidic Foods: मिर्च-मसाले, citrus fruits (नींबू, संतरा), और टमाटर stomach lining को irritate कर सकते हैं।
  • Reduce Caffeine and Alcohol: Coffee, tea, और alcohol lower esophageal sphincter (LES) को relax कर सकते हैं, जिससे reflux और acidity बढ़ती है।
  • Eat Smaller, Frequent Meals: एक बार में बहुत ज़्यादा खाने (large meals) से पेट पर दबाव पड़ता है। दिन में 3 बड़े meals के बजाय 5-6 छोटे meals लें।
  • Chew Properly: Digestion मुँह से ही शुरू हो जाता है। खाने को अच्छी तरह चबाकर और धीरे-धीरे खाएं।

Lifestyle Changes (जीवनशैली में बदलाव)

  • Maintain Upright Posture: खाना खाने के तुरंत बाद कभी न लेटें। कम से कम 2-3 घंटे का gap रखें ताकि gravity के कारण acid पेट में ही रहे।
  • Weight Management: Excess body weight, विशेषकर पेट के आसपास (abdominal obesity), पेट पर pressure डालता है (intra-abdominal pressure), जिससे acid ऊपर की ओर push होता है।
  • Stress Management: Stress और anxiety सीधे gut-brain axis को प्रभावित करते हैं और digestion को धीमा करते हैं। Yoga, meditation, और deep breathing exercises (pranayama) फायदेमंद हैं।
  • Quit Smoking: Nicotine LES muscle को कमज़ोर करता है और saliva production (जो acid को neutralize करता है) को कम करता है।
